Beccy Connell

Progressive independent unionist for Branch Secretary, Branch Committee, National Council

I believe that universities should be leaders in upholding workers’ rights and setting high standards of employment.  Yet over the decades, we have seen an increase in managerialism and the corporatisation of our workplaces, undermining our core business of teaching and research.

I have been a proud NTEU member for more than 30 years. I have been an independent, progressive member of Branch Committee for half a decade (2021–2026). I currently serve on the NTEU Cases Committee, supporting members who need assistance with workplace matters.

I am active in promoting the work of the Union including creating the Business School Member Organising Group for professional staff.

Through these roles, I have gained a broad understanding of the challenges facing staff across the University including excessive workloads and insecure work.

I am standing for these positions because I have the experience, the perspective, and the commitment to work for all members.  I’m not interested in factionalism. I want to see a unified, welcoming union that nurtures high levels of member participation working to improve our conditions.
